It started at 17, when Mahdi founded I-Photo Kairouan with friends — an association that organized photography events, sharpened their skills, and helped build a cultural movement in the city. What began as street portraits and community exhibitions grew into something much bigger: documentary work, international art projects, and commissioned photography spanning continents.

Commissioned to photograph the south of Tunisia for an article by journalist Layli Foroudi on water scarcity, featuring local farmer Am Salah, who has continued preserving local seed varieties despite the odds.
